The income from manufacturing sector to GSDP and its growth rates from 2007-08 to 2013-14 are
given in Appendix 3.1. The percentage contribution of Manufacturing sector to GSDP from 2007-08
to 2013-14 did not show a definite trend. A drastic decline can be observed during 2009-10 and after
that there was an increase which again declined during 2012-13 and 2013-14 as shown in Fig.3.1.

Minerals
3.5 At the national level as per the statistics published by CSO, the mining and quarrying sector
contributes ` 50960 crore (1.8%) to GDP at 2004-05 prices in the 1st half of 2014-15 with a growth
of 2% over the corresponding period of previous year. At current prices, the mining and quarrying
sector contributes 1.08 lakh crore (2%) to GDP during the first half of 2014-15 with a growth of 5.4%
over the corresponding period of previous year. During 2013-14, as per the provisional estimates,
the mining and quarrying sector constitutes 1.9% (` 1.07 lakh crore) of the GDP at 2004-05 prices
and 2.1% (`. 2.23 lakh crore) of GDP at current prices.
3.6 In Kerala, according to the statistics published by Economics and Statistics Department, the
mining and quarrying sector contributes 0.5% and 0.3% to the State Domestic Product during 2013-
14 at current and constant prices respectively.
3.7 There are 83 major mineral mines that are operational in the State as on 31st March 2014. Total
area covered by mining leases is 2036 ha. as on 31/10/2014. The mineral wise details shows that
area covered by limeshell/seashell is 1264 ha., mineral sand 255 ha. and lime stone 246 ha. Area
covered by graphite is only 1.2 ha and Quartz is 6.8 ha.
3.8 During 2013-14 81 mining leases were granted for major minerals, 3140 quarrying permits
were granted for minor minerals and 3752 quarrying permits were granted for minor minerals under
Consolidated Royalty Payment System (CRPS). Government gets revenue from minerals mainly
by way of royalty. Revenue collected during the year 2013-14 is `54.17 crore (`12.39 crore from
Major Minerals and `41.78 crore from Minor Minerals) which is 9 % higher than the previous year
collection of `49.7 crore. The mineral wise details of area covered by mining leases are given in
Appendix 3.2.
