Press Release and Photo Publicity

5.219 Press releases including special features through the print and electronic media, release
of video news clips to T.V media, convening press meets etc are the major activities. During the
reporting period, about 750 and 5000 press releases per month were released from headquarters
and district offices respectively. The photography wing of the department covered more than 4500
photographs from headquarters and around 3500 from district offices. The integrated development
news grid scheme for timely reporting of development news at grass roots level has been on track
in all districts.

Modernization of Tagore Theatre

5.220 The conversion of Tagore Theatre in Thiruvananthapuram into multipurpose cultural centre for
facilitating various cultural and entertainment activities is nearing completion and it will be opened to
the public in March, 2015.

Indian Institute of Mass Communication

5.221 The Kerala Chapter of Indian Institute of Mass Communication has started functioning two
years back at the campus of the Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam. The land for campus has
already been allotted and the work will be started shortly.

Sutharyakeralam

5.222 This is a live complaint redressal television programme initiated by the department where the
Hon’ble Chief Minister addresses the grievances of common people especially the poor. During 2013-
14, 360 petitions were redressed out of the 476 petitions received. For discussing the developmental
issues of Government, the radio programme “Janapatham” is aired and the video programmes
“Priyakeralam” and “Navakeralam” are telecasted.

Publications

5.223 Publication of reference books, magazines, newsletters, pamphlets, etc are being done during
the period. Janapatham, Kerala Calling and Janapaksha Chuvadukal are the major publications.

Government Web Portal

5.224 All Government departments and Government Secretariat are included in the portal. Maximum
links are given to provide easy access of information regarding function, services etc. including
application forms of all departments. Almost 5000 GOs/ Circulars / Notifications were added in the
site and sites of 12 Ministers were updated during this period.

Field Publicity and Exhibitions

5.225 The field publicity wing functioning at the Directorate of the department organizes various
event management activities on behalf of the Government. At the district level, the field publicity
wing is giving adequate publicity to Government policies and programmes. These campaign and
awareness programmes are being arranged in the form of art and cultural programmes. Exhibitions
and multimedia campaigns were launched for creating awareness on national integration, communal
harmony, decentralized planning etc within and outside the state. As a part of strengthening the
existing exhibition wing, the department has procured three mobile exhibition vehicles.

Kerala State Planning Board
