Similar Housing Schemes in Other South Indian States
• Tamil Nadu
By ‘Vision 2013’ document the Govt. included the policy of Housing to all the residents of
Tamilnadu irrespective of their economic status and emphasizes PPP to provide affordable
quality housing to all. Major implementing agencies are Tamilnadu Housing Board, Tamilnadu
Slum Clearance Board, Housing Co-op societies, Commissionerate of Town and Country
Planning and Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority.
• Karnataka
Here also the policy aims housing for socially and economically weaker section. Three
organisations under Housing Dept.- Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Ltd., Karnataka
Housing Board, Karnataka Slum Development Board- strives to promote cost effective
environment friendly innovative technologies in the field of housing and to design houses for
special groups like widows, leprosy cured, HIV affected, Devadasis, tribals, Nomadics, etc.
• Andhra Pradesh
Affordable housing scheme is included in the policy of the Govt. ‘Rajiv Swagruha’ is one
of the major schemes of the State implemented by Andhra Pradesh Rajiv Swagruha
Corporation Ltd. Andhra pradesh Housing Board is also involved in housing schemes for
weaker sections. Andhra Pradesh State Housing Coporation(APSHC) mobilize loans from
various financial institutions for implementing housing programmes. It facilitates information
about various housing schemes like Indiramma, Weavers Housing Programme, Fisherman
Housing Programme, Rajiv Gruhakalpa etc.

Information and Publicity
5.217 The Department of Information and Public Relations is the nodal department involved in
effective dissemination of Government policies, programmes and achievements. Publicizing and
popularizing the developmental activities and welfare programmes / schemes of the Government
departments, audio-video productions and field publicity, organizing press meets of the Hon’ble
Chief Minister and Ministers, maintaining the web portal of the Government (www.kerala.gov.in)
and other departments, presenting tableau in the Republic Day Parade, organizing Gandhi Jayanthi
celebrations, reading week celebrations, theatre festival, media award presentation, implementation
of the Cable TV Act and Press and Registration of Books Act, distribution of various welfare pensions
to journalists and non-journalists etc are the major activities of the department.
5.218 Two autonomous institutions namely, Kerala Press Academy and Centre for Development of
Imaging Technology (C-DIT), working under this department accomplish the administrative, technical
and promotional affairs of the public and private sector with the help of advanced technologies in the
field of visual communication, journalism, etc.
