6.31 The Foreign Tourist Visits to Kerala is mostly confined to Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram        EXTERNAL SECTOR
Districts. Both these districts together constitute 72 percentage of total FTA to the State. The other
districts get a sizable share in FTA are Idukki, Alappuzha and Kottayam. All these five districts
together captures 94 percentage of FTA to the State. Figure shows the distribution of FTA among 14
districts in 2013.

Domestic Tourist Arrivals (DTA)

6.32 Domestic Tourism in India is mostly confined to pilgrimage and some leisure segments only.
This is a sector were the other states perform better than Kerala. 108.57 lakh Domestic Tourist Visits
(DTA) took place in Kerala in 2013 which shows 7.75 percent increase over the previous year. But
at the national level the DTA is increasing at a higher rate than that of Kerala. The growth rate of
National DTA is 9.6 percentages in 2013. The share of the State in National DTA decreased from 1.35
percentages in 2008 to 0.96 percentages in 2012 and further to 0.95 percentages in 2013.Appendix 6.9
shows the National and State DTA from 2008 onwards. Figure shows a comparison of growth trends
at National and State level.
