                            6.33 There is also regional disparity in distribution of DTA in favour of three districts. Most of the
                            Domestic Tourists visit Ernakulam, Thrissur and Thiruvananthapuram districts. These three districts
                            capture around 60 percentage of total DTA of the state. Figure shows distribution of DTA among 14
                            districts in 2013.

                 Economic Impact

                 6.34 Tourism activities have a wider impact on the economy in terms of creating jobs and income
                 for the households through tourists spending in the local economy. It generates income in a large
                 number of activities that feature as sector and sub sectors like hotels and accommodation units,
                 restaurants, travel agencies and tour operators, transport services, tourist resorts and complexes,
                 entertainment facilities, shopping, conferences and conventions, adventure and recreational facilities,
                 guide services etc.

                 6.35 With increasing tourist inflows, the tourism sector is a significant contributor to the State economy.
                 The direct contribution of the industry is explicit in Foreign exchange earnings and domestic tourist

                 earnings. Tourism industry is a major contributor of foreign exchange earnings in Kerala. The foreign
                 exchange earnings during the year 2012 were ` 4,571 crores and it increased to ` 5,560 crore in
                 2013. The domestic tourist earnings for the year 2012 were ` 10,883 Crores and that increased
                 to `11,225 crores in 2013. There registered an increase of 21.63 and 3.14 percentage in foreign

                 exchange and domestic tourist earning for the State in 2013, respectively.

                 6.36 The tourism industry in broader terms has great indirect multiplier impact in the economy

                 through backward and forward linkages and also induced impact through spending of benefitted
                 households and firms in the economy. Total Revenue (including direct & indirect means) from
                 Tourism has increased from ` 20,430 Crores in 2012 to ` 22,926 crore in 2013. It registers 12.21

                 percentage increase. Appendix 6.10 shows the foreign exchange earnings and domestic tourist

                 earnings including revenues from indirect sources from 2008 onwards.
