             f) Science and Women
                  • 	Activities of the Women Scientist Division includes Back to Lab Programme for women, con-
                    ducted awareness programmes on Technological advances in transforming women’s life, Stu-
                    dent Programme in Excellance in Experimental Design (SPEED), and 50 Pratibha Scholarship
                    awards.

             g) Biotechnology
                  •	 6 projects under the Young Investigators Programme in Biotechnology(YIBP), 1 new Project
                    under the Industry Linked Biotechnology Research Scheme(IBRS), 1 new project under the
                    Biotechnology Innovation for Rural Development(BIRD) scheme, 2 project under the Biotech-
                    nology Training and Workshop Scheme(BTW), and 1 Post doctoral felowship were sanctioned
                    by the Kerala Biotechnology Commission.

        Activities and Achievements of R & D Centers under the Council

             1. Kerala School of Mathematics (KSM): Impart traning and research in Matematics, Establish
                 Core Group research facility, Training on Matematics Olympiads, Matematic talent, Out reach
                 programme for teachers and students in Schools and Colleges, refrisher training for college
                 teachers, National and international workshops establishing platform for interaction

             2. National Transportation Planning and Research Centre (NATPAC):
                 NATPAC has undertaken application oriented research, sponsored studies and Training &
                 Extension programmes in the field of Transportation and allied areas

                 • 	 The major R&D projects of NATPAC includes Study on Urban Travel and Traffic Flow Char-
                    acteristics in Kerala- Development of Quick Response Travel Demand Estimation Technique,
                    Impact of Vehicular emmission on people like traffic police, drivers and roadside vendors, Im-
                    pact of frieght rates on the profitability of goods operation, Study on performance of Highway
                    Development Projects in Kerala, Study on the use of waste plasic for road construction in urban
                    centres in Kerala Study on Road Safety and Youth- Problems and Solutions, Impact of Surveil-
                    lance Cameras Installed in Thiruvananthapuram

                 • 	 Achievements and other initiatives- Developed indices for accessibility and mobility to the Ur-
                    ban People, Revival of Champakkara Kadambayar Canal, Improvement of Kovalam Akkulam
                    Canal, Identified and Systematically Classified the factors for an accident.

             3. Jawaharlal Nehru Tropical Botanic Garden and Research Institute (TBGRI): The major
                 activities under the institute includes:-
                 • Development of conservatories for rare, endangered and threatened plants
                 • Documentation of traditional knowledge on food and medicine
                 • Development and maintenance of the best germplasm
                 • 23500 public visits recorded
                 • Student Programme for Excellence in Experimental Designs organised in May 2013
                 • Central Nursery organised training programmes in Plant Propagation
                 • Conducted and participated in 9 exhibitions

             4. Srinivasa Ramanujan Inistitute for Basic Sciences (SRIBS): the major activities and
                 achievements of CESS during the reference period includes :-
                 • National Workshop and Colloquium in Applicable Mathematics in Basic Science Education &
                    Research in April 2013
                 • National workshop on Computational Chemestry
                 • Workshop on Sophesticated test and Instrumentaion
                 • Colloquium on Theoretical Physics
                 • Nurturing excellence in Science Teaching
