Major Initiatives of RCC
Cancer Care for Life
7.16 This is a unique insurance scheme promoted by the RCC. During 2013-14, 61,193 new members
were enrolled in the scheme. 956 patients availed benefit from the scheme during the reported
period.
Free Drug Bank
7.17 3,714 patients benefitted from Free Drug bank during 2013-14. This provides partial or full
provision of drugs to patients based on stipulated guidelines of the Drug Bank.
Support for Paediatric Patients
7.18 Under the Kinginicheppu scheme, free food and treatment was provided to poor paediatric
patients through voluntary contributions. Prathyasa, a voluntary organisation working in collaboration
with the RCC gave financial and psychological support paediatric patients and their families
Indian Cancer Society Support Scheme
7.19 RCC is one of the five centres receiving financial support from Indian Cancer Society across
the nation. During 2013-14, 134 patients received support worth ` 103.78 lakh.
The RCC has also initiated outreach programmes during this period like early cancer detection
programme, Tobacco cessation clinic, campaign against substance abuse in high schools and
higher secondary schools in Thiruvananthapuram, Cancer outreach programmes, cancer screening
programmes etc
