5. Centre for Water Research Development and Management (CWRDM)
CWRDM is carrying out 66 research projects on various aspects related to water resources
management, of which 30 are plan funded projects and 24 funded by various agencies like DST,
Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Indian National Committee on
Hydrology, etc. 12 projects are carried out through Consultancy model, based on demands from
user agencies. During the reported period, seminars, sponsored trainings and farmer leaders
training programmes were also held. The centre also has national and international publications in
peer reviewed journals.
6. Centre State Inistitute for Partnership in Technology (SCRIPT)
A wide arry of tecjhnologies developed by various R&D centres of State and Centre Government
remains untapped. Another challenge the science and technology faces is the unbalanced access
to knowledge and innovation. At the same time some segment of the economy uses world class
technology. In this context, the Government of Kerala set up Centre State Inistitute for Partnership
in Technology (SCRIPT). The SCRIT took up its initial level of activities during the referred period
of time for getting approval, partnerships and funding
7. Critical Mineral Research Inistitute (CMRI)
Beach sand mineral resources of kerala has found one of the best of its kind in the world. However
the industrial potentials of the mineral sands are not been fully harnessed. Technology development
through R&D is very essential for this. Therefore Government of Kerala set up Critical Mineral
Research Inistitute to explore the potentials in this area with the collaboration of industry and
inistitute partners. The CMRI took up its initial level of activities during the referred period of time
for getting approval, funding etc
Activities and achievements of Grant in aid Institutions
1. Malabar Botanical Garden (MBGS)
The main highlights of MBGS are Jnakiya (RET Plant Repository), Vaidyamadam (Medicinal Gar-
den), Bambusetum (Bamboo Garden), Hortus Valley (exclusive garden for the plants of ‘Hor-
tus Malabaricus’), Panathottam (Palm Garden), Apushpi (Pteridophyte Conservatory), Nakshatra
Vanam (Trees of Birth Stars), Aquagene (Aquatic Plant Conservatory and Nursery) etc. have very
large collection of aquatic plants of India, 143 species of ferns and lycophytes one among the
oldest group of land plants, More than 52 species of fruit trees are conserved, Opened Lichen
garden, conducted workshop on intellectual property rights, took part in the 26th Kerala Science
Congress Exhibition, national workshop on bodiversity, It has sanctioned R&D projects at various
stages of progress. MBG had publications in the reference period.
2. Integrated Rural Technology Centre
• A Chinese hatchery, rearing unit and related facilities have been set up with the help of DST,
Govt: of India
• A full-fledged facility for production of oyster mushroom spawn has been set up as part of a DST
project
• Developed a fuel efficient wood burning Chula for use in kitchens
• DPR prepared for the Mennvallom Small Hydel Project
3. Sophisticated Test and Instrumentation Centre (STIC)
• Carry out research and development in areas like Measurement science, Biomedical
instrumentation, Signal processing, Photothermal/photoacoustic phenomena, Material analysis
