Sports Infrastructure Facilities
5.202 Modular sports infrastructure facilities are being developed throughout the State. During
2013-14, two institutions were selected by Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs Department for the
construction of modular swimming pools at Bharananganam Panchayath at Kottayam and Thariyod
Grama Panchayath at Wayanad. Similarly one institution each were selected, one institution for the
construction of long jump pit with synthetic run up (G.V. Raja Sports School, Thiruvananthapuram)
and for the construction of futsal (Govt. Manavethan VHSS, Nilambur, Malappuram).
Play for Health
5.203 On the findings of the results of the total physical fitness programme, the Directorate of Sports
& Youth Affairs Department has implemented another scheme namely ‘Play a Game Play for Fun’ to
school children with the aim to intimate them in sports and games and help them to develop physical
activity as a daily routine. In the financial year 2013-14, 25 schools were selected from six districts
viz., Kottayam ( 5 schools) Alappuzha ( 4 nos), Kollam ( 5 Nos), Ernakulam( 5 Nos), Pathanamthitta
(5 nos) and one school from Thiruvananthapuram for the implementation of the scheme.
Swim N Survive Programme
5.204 The scheme aims at a survival training programme targeting school children through training
and operations. In the report year 2013-14, 4 schools were selectedfrom the districts Pathanamthitta,
Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kozhikode, for the implementation of the scheme by the Sports & Youth
Affairs Department.
Training programmes in schools
5.205 Kerala State Bharat Scouts and Guides is a voluntary organisation functioning in the schools
in Kerala as per Kerala Educational Rule.In the report year 2014-15, 38 training programmes were
conducted.
Youth empowerment
5.206 150th Birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda was celebrated in the State during the years
2012-13 and 2013-14. The message of Swami Vivekananda was conveyed to the people of Kerala,
especially the youth so as to help to strengthen the culture of patriotism and to be responsible
citizen of the nation. The teachings of Swami Vivekananda will inspire Indian Youth and will be
helpful for national integration and communal harmony. The programme was conducted through
Sree Ramakrishna Mission with the co-operation of Kerala State Youth Welfare Board, NSS, NCC
etc. The following were main programmes organized;
5.207 Installation of Swami Vivekananda Statues, 150 Vivekananda Study circles,100 Youth camps,
100 youth days in colleges and Higher Secondary Schools, Library Competition on teachings of
Swami Vivekananda, Role model competition etc. On the completion of the project, the life and
messages of Swami Vivekananda had been effectively communicated to more than one lakh youths
of Kerala.
