Kerala has been known for its achievements in the field of health and education. The State has endeavoured to create an educated, literate and healthy society. These achievements have been possible because of the pioneering policies taken in these sectors. Kerala has always taken the lead in coming up with path-breaking moves. The transgender policy announced by the State is another one in this league as Kerala is the first State to unveil such a policy. However, the challenge faced by the State is sustaining the policy initiatives. The advancements in health and education have been marred by issues like poor quality of education, lack of adequate skills and emerging life threating life style diseases. Further, the advancements in the field of health and education in women have not led to creation of economic opportunities for them. It is recognised that concerted efforts are required to sustain the achievements as well as tackle the issues in this sector.
