MSME units & Employment generated in MSME sector over the last 7 years
District wise achievements
3.39 District wise analysis reveals that during the year under review, Ernakulam occupies highest
position in all aspects with 2423 MSME units and employment generated 19191, while Idukki was
at the lowest position with 270 new MSME units and Wayanad with lowest employment generated,
investment and good & services produced.
Industrial Co-operative Societies
3.40 In Kerala, the total number of working Industrial co-operative societies as on 31.3.2014 was
566 against 621 in the previous year. About 9% of decline has been occurred in the number of
Industrial co-operative societies. Out of 566, 138 Societies were registered by women. The details
are given in Appendix 3.20. During 2013-14, 13 societies were registered.
Industrial Development Plot / Areas
3.41 Directorate of Industries and Commerce (DIC) is providing and developing infrastructure
facilities for small scale sector in the state. At present there are 37 DA/DP s under DIC having a total
acquired area of 2456 Acre, in which one is not yet commenced and another one not developed.
A total of 2228 working units are there in these DA/DPs which was 2176 in the previous year. The
details are given in Appendix 3.21.
Mini Industrial Estates
3.42 The total number of Mini Industrial estates under DIC as on 31.3.2014 is 89 and the total
number of SSI units are 777. (88 and 753 as on 31.03.2013). Out of which 683 units are working.
The total number of employees under these units is 3400 (previous year it was 3153). The Income
generated from these units is ` 5178.82 lakh result in 78% increase from ` 2908.96 lakh of previous
year. The details are given in Appendix 3.22.
Industrial Estates under SIDCO
3.43 Kerala Small Industries Development Corporation (SIDCO) provides infrastructure facilities
such as land, work shed, water, distribution of scarce raw materials to the Small Scale Sector of the
State through industrial estates and industrial parks. 17 major industrial estates, which include 805
working units, are under the administrative control of SIDCO. These working units provided nearly
