                                                  ‘Make in India’ Campaign for MSMEs

                     Make in India - a major new national program launched in September 25th 2014, by the
                     Central Government.

                     The Make in India strategy aims to facilitate investment, foster innovation, enhance skill
                     development, protect intellectual property and build manufacturing infrastructure in the
                     country. The real objective of this strategy is to ease the investment caps and controls, to
                     open up India’s Industrial sectors to global participation. The campaign has been concentrated
                     to fulfill the purpose of job creation, enforcement to secondary and tertiary sector, boosting the
                     national economy, converting India to a self-reliant country and to give the Indian economy
                     global recognition.

                     The aim of Make in India is transforming India to a manufacturing hub by eliminating the
                     unnecessary laws and regulations and making bureaucratic processes easier, more
                     transparent, responsive & accountable. The rules applicable to industry, which also apply to
                     MSME relate to various departments have been entrusted with the task of simplifying the rules.
                     Major sectors included are Automobile Components, Biotechnology, Chemicals, Construction,
                     Electronic Systems, Food Processing, Textiles & Garments etc.

                     Achievements of Major Central Government Programmes

                     Financial Package for rural industries -Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Pro-
                     gramme (PMEGP)

                     3.64 A national level credit linked subsidy scheme, namely, ‘Prime Minister’s Employment Generation
                     Programme (PMEGP)’was introduced in August 2008 by merging erstwhile PMRY and REGP
                     schemes of this Ministry for generating an estimated 37.38 lakh additional employment opportunities
                     by setting up of micro-enterprises in the non-farm sector in rural as well as urban areas. An outlay
                     of ` 8060 crore including ` 7800 crore as margin money subsidy for PMEGP in the 12th Plan has
                     been approved against ` 5540 crore in 11th Plan. Since inception in 2008-09 to 2013-14, 2.48 lakh
                     units have been assisted with margin money subsidy of ` 4745.15 crore to create employment for
                     an estimated 22.29 lakh persons in the country. For 2014-15 an outlay of ` 1418.28 crore has been
                     earmarked for the scheme.

                     3.65 State-wise margin money subsidy released and utilized, number of projects assisted and
                     estimated employment generated under PMEGP during the last five years is given in Appendix
                     3.32. Number of projects and employment are shown in Figures 3.7 and 3.8.
