AGRICULTURE AND ALLIED SECTORS 2.73 On the input side, the price of grass decreased by 29.72 per cent during 2013-14. Compared
Price per Kgto previous year, the price of gingely oil cake increased by 20.37 percent, coconut oil cake by 14.93
per cent, the price of straw increased by 32.26 per cent, ground nut cake by 6.40 per cent during
2013-14 and the increase in the price of inputs is a serious threat to dairy farming. The trend in
average prices of livestock products from 2008-09 to 2013-14 are shown in Fig 2.5.

2.74 Annual Plan 2013-14 earmarked outlay of ` 260.25 crore and ` 47.65 crore for Animal Husbandry
and Diary Development sub sectors and expended ` 233.54 crore (89.73 per cent) and ` 48.25 crore
(101 per cent) respectively. Special Livestock Breeding Programme (SLBP) and stregthening of
veterinary services were two major projects implemented with outlay of ` 41 crores and ` 30 crore
respectively and ` 40.51 crore (99 per cent) and ` 22 crore (73 per cent) were expended. Under
dairy development, milkshed development and Assistance to primary Dairy co-operatives are the
major schemes with expenditure of ` 19.66 crore (98 per cent) and ` 14.90 crore (100 per cent)
respectively.
Key Initiatives in 2014-15
The key initiatives of the Dairy Development and Animal Husbandry department are shown below:
• Door step veterinary services extended to 20 blocks and 5 corporation in 2014-15.
• Substantial increase in the outlay for livestock breeding. For the scheme SLBP and Govardhini
total amount of ` 46.39 crore earmarked.
• Special attention to cattlefeed production - ` 8 crore provided for cattle feed plant, Thiruvangoor
and ` 6 crore for High -Tech cattlefeed plant, Idukki.
