Unemployment Rate
9.18 Though the State has been registering a high growth rate for quite some time now, it records the
highest unemployment rate in the surveys conducted by the NSSO. According to the latest Survey,
in the category of major states, Kerala is having the highest Unemployment Rate (UR) under all
approaches (See Appendix 9.1 and Figure 9.7). Only two small States viz; Nagaland and Tripura
have a higher UR than Kerala. Unemployment in Kerala is found to be over three times the all India
average.
