9.32 The survey reveals that about 98 per cent of the self-employed, 85 per cent of the casual
labourers and 47 per cent of the regular wage/salaried employees in the rural areas were employed
in the informal sector. In the case of urban areas the corresponding figures were 98 per cent, 85 per
cent and 42 per cent. The gender differentials in the proportion of workers in the informal sector by
status in employment under rural and urban areas may be seen at Figure 9.13.
