Mini Sukumar was an Associate Professor in Women’s Studies at the Department of Women's Studies at the University of Calicut, Kerala. She was actively involved in the women’s movements in Kerala from the early 1990s and the first State Programme Director of Kerala Mahila Samakhya Society, a national women empowerment programme by the Ministry of HRD from 1999 -2003. She was the National General Secretary of the Indian Association for Women’s Studies (IAWS), a professional association that aims to further women's studies as an interdisciplinary academic field concerned with women, in different disciplines within and beyond educational institutions, from 2021 - 2023. She is a member of the Governing Body of the Gender Park, Department of Women & Child Development, Government of Kerala. At the State Planning Board, she deals with sectors -gender and development, social justice, prisons, and school education. She contributes articles, book reviews, columns, and participates in television programs, and is a founder member of Women’s Imprint, a feminist publishing house.
