Overview
The State Planning Board library is a research and reference library in the areas of economic planning, Kerala economy, public policy, development studies, gender studies and other important sectors of the economy such as labour, industry, agriculture, banking and social sectors. The resources of the State Planning Board library give insight to the planning process in the State, with its collection of Approach Paper, Working Papers, Five-Year Plans and Annual Plans. The collections include the first and second five-year Plan documents of the State that are available only in the State Planning Board library.
The library is repository of plan and policy documents, government publications, study reports, working papers, statistical reports and conference proceedings. The library provides access to important Indian economy databases and online journals. The major objective is to build a comprehensive database on Kerala economy through its rich collection of publications. The resources of the library are useful in obtaining an overall perspective of planning and development policies of the State. The library also provides support for evaluation studies.
The mission is to facilitate user friendly access to current and relevant information to meet the academic and research requirements of State Planning Board officers, researchers, faculties and students of universities and colleges. The library is well equipped with latest IT facilities to organize and retrieve information and aims to satisfy the information requirements of the users using its collection and innovative services.
Functions

Collection, organisation and preservation of books and database development of journals, reports and e-resources on all subject areas related to planning and development

Circulation of books and journals to patrons as per rules

Preparation of bibliographies on specific subjects from the computerised database

Indexing and abstracting of Journals: A monthly list of selected articles indexed and abstracted out of journals received in the library

Resource sharing and Inter-library loan with other Government libraries

An effective and responsive reference and referral service and compilation of special reference datasets according to needs of the library user
The Member, State Planning Board Dr B Ekbal, Chair-Person, Library Committee is the final authority in all matters related to administration of library. The Library Advisory Committee gives guidance and direction in all functions and activities related to library.
Membership
The library will have the following membership categories.
- State Planning Board Officials (All officials are members of Library)
- Research Scholars and Faculty Members
Those who have registered for Ph.D. or those who have undertaken project work will be given temporary membership for reference as per the recommendation of Head of the Institution - Students
This category includes UG and PGstudents for reference purpose - Public
This will be a category with some restrictions. Genuine users will be permitted with special permission of the Administrative Officer, State Planning Board
