On March 18, 2024, the Kerala State Planning Board (KSPB) and the Kerala State Statistical Commission (KSSC) jointly organised a one-day national workshop to examine the method of estimation of Gross State Domestic Product in Kerala.

Recognising the importance of accurate income measurement, the KSPB has engaged in a series of National and State-level consultations from 2019 to 2024. These consultations included participation from officials of the National Statistical Office (NSO) of the Government of India, ensuring a comprehensive approach to the issue. To further these efforts, the State Planning Board constituted three study groups tasked with examining the methods of income calculation across the primary, secondary, and tertiary sectors.

This national workshop explored preliminary insights and recommendations for revising and improving methods of estimating state income for these groups. The workshop served as a platform for stakeholders to share their suggestions and comments, setting the stage for impactful changes in the State's economic measurement processes. This is expected to significantly increase the accuracy and reliability of Gross State Domestic Product calculations for the State of Kerala.
