To study and evaluate the process of bio mining, Prof. V K. Ramachandran, Vice Chairperson, State Planning Board visited the bio mining site at Kureepuzha on 20th September, 2022. Smt. Josephine. J, Chief of Decentralised Planning Division and other officials of the State Planning Board accompanied the Vice Chairperson. Representatives of Kollam Corporation and District Planning Office were also present on the occasion. The legacy waste dumped at Kureepuzha site for the last seven decades are removed through the process of Bio-mining. Municipal solid waste was deposited in an area of 5.5 acres of land on the banks of the Ashtamudi Lake at Kureepuzha. Bio-mining was done by Erode based Zigma Global Environ Solutions Pvt Ltd., using customized machineries, especially series of trommels, patented feeding hoppers, soil precision separators, combustible separators, various types of sieves, etc. The segregation process is over and the disposals of segregates are being removed from the site. The Corporation took initiatives to process waste subsequent to intervention of the National Green Tribunal.
