To study and evaluate the process of bio mining, Prof. V K. Ramachandran, Vice Chairperson, State Planning Board visited the District Agricultural Farm, Kottukkal on 20th September, 2022. Shri S. S. Nagesh, Chief of Agriculture Division, Smt. Josephine. J, Chief of Decentralised Planning Division and other officials of the State Planning Board accompanied the Vice Chairperson. Representatives of Kollam Corporation and District Planning Office were also present on the occasion along with Panchayath representatives. Kottukkal agricultural farm is located at Ittiva Grama Panchayath in Chadayamangalam block. The farm started functioning in 1971 and has an area of 140.54 ha, of which 125.84 hectares are utilized for scientific cultivation. Major crops cultivated include coconut, cashew, pepper, mango, plantain, pear, rambuttan, tubers, ginger, turmeric passion fruit etc. High quality graft seedlings of coconut, ornamental plants, cashew, pepper, plantain, mango, rambutan, kudampuli etc. are also cultivated. In addition, the farm has indigenous cows of Vechur and Kasaragod dwarf breeds, a poultry unit with 125 hens and 60 new bee colonies. Well planned marketing facility has also been set up in the farm.
